Mechanical Engineering
The Department of Mechanical Engineering started teaching in the 1994-1995 academic year as a part of the Faculty of Engineering. Mechanical Engineering is an engineering branch that deals with the design, manufacture, installation and operation of machinery and manufacturing processes. Considering the necessity of mechanical engineers to have a wider range of electronics and especially computer knowledge, the department updates it’s education program in this direction

Department Vision
In order to raise the welfare level of our society to the level of European Societies, to bring the well-trained, modern mechanical engineers required by the industry of our country to the industry and to create a scientific and teaching-based infrastructure that will increase the competitiveness of the industry inside and outside the country.
Department Mission
In line with the general benefits of humanity and our country, in order to raise the level of social life, today's scientific and technological data to students, industry and society to make the production of resources using safe and economic awareness of mechanical engineering education, research and development work is to do.
Establishment
The Department of Mechanical Engineering accepts 84 new students every year; Ege University is one of the nine departments of the Faculty of Engineering. In the department where a modern Mechanical Engineering education is given, the duration of the education is four years excluding the English preparatory period. Students with sufficient level of English can directly start the first year of their teaching in the Department. For 30% of the courses in the department, the language of instruction is English. The remaining courses are given in Turkish. As of 2016, there are 391 students in the Department and 7 professors, 3 associate professors, 12 assistant professors, 1 lecturer and 13 research assistants are teaching. Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 1994 within Ege University Faculty of Engineering. 32 students were admitted to the department in 1994. The department, which first graduated in 1998, has been strengthening its academic staff since its establishment.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Successful completion of all courses available in the program (equivalent to 240 ECTS in total) and having a minimum GPA of 2.00 out of 4.00 is the necessary qualification for graduation.
Program Profile
The department has five departments: Energy, Construction-Manufacturing, Machine Theory and Dynamics, Mechanics and Thermodynamics. The curriculum is designed to give the fundamentals of contemporary mechanical engineering. The first year courses include physics, chemistry, mathematics, computers and basic engineering courses (Basic Science) to bring students with different levels of knowledge to the same level of knowledge. The compulsory courses offered in the second (Basic Engineering), third (Basic Mechanical Engineering) and fourth years (special topics in Mechanical Engineering) include courses such as Fundamentals of Mechanics, Materials Science, Manufacturing Methods, Thermodynamics and Electronics. In the third year, students are divided into Thermodynamics-Energy and Construction-Manufacturing. In the third and fourth years of education, there are elective courses organized by branches. Through these courses, students are offered a wide range of courses related to mechanical engineering. In the first year, students are required to do a full-time internship at Ege University for at least 8 weeks and a total of at least 8 weeks of internship. In these internships, experience is gained in the branches of industry that concern mechanical engineering. The Diploma Project taken in the fourth year is a beginning for Research and Development and is presented as a thesis.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Mechanical engineering, which is one of the oldest and widest fields of engineering activities, has many application areas in the industry. Mechanical engineers; In addition to machine tools, they design and manufacture machines and equipment for all branches of the industry. For example; turbines, printing presses, earthmoving machinery, food processors, air conditioning and cooling systems, artificial hearts and limbs, airplanes, ships, diesel locomotives, automobiles, trucks and engines for mass transportation, etc. ... They are involved in the design, manufacture and operation of hydraulic turbines to drive their generators and boilers, motors, turbines and pumps to generate steam power. Mechanical engineers design and operate power plants; They are concerned with the economic combustion of fuels, the conversion of heat energy to mechanical power and the optimum use of this power. In the field of heating, ventilation and air conditioning, mechanical engineers provide controlled temperature and humidity conditions in homes, workplaces, commercial buildings and industrial plants. They develop equipment and systems for keeping food cold, cold storage and ice production facilities. Mechanical engineers are also involved in the design of machinery for passenger, warship and cargo ships, in the design, production, maintenance and repair of automobiles, trucks and buses in the automotive industry, and in the design of new aircraft and space vehicles in the aerospace industry.
