Chemical Engineering

The Department of Chemical Engineering was established in 1968 as a part of the Faculty of Engineering Sciences. In 1978 it continued as a department within the newly established Faculty of Chemistry. Since 1982, it continues to exist within the Faculty of Engineering.

Chemical Engineering is a branch of engineering that uses the knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics which are common subjects in all other engineering branches as well as physical chemistry, mass transfer and chemical reaction knowledge in the design, operation and solution of environmental problems. The common and different aspects of chemical engineering compared with other engineering arise from the versatility and interdisciplinary nature of this profession. Although many definitions of chemical engineering and engineering have been made in history, the definition of the profession in the 2000s is as follows.

Chemical Engineering is a vast and versatile engineering branch that deals with the development and application of processes in which the chemical structure, energy content or physical state of materials are altered.

The Chemical Engineering program is designed with the idea that the chemical engineer will be the person responsible for the design, construction and operation of the facilities where the material undergoes chemical and physical exchange. A chemical engineer should have the ability to reduce costs, increase production and improve the quality of industrial products. Therefore, it is aimed to equip students with theoretical and practical knowledge in the design, operation and control of industrial processes and to gain competencies such as communication skills, leadership and lifelong learning.
