Department of Food Engineering
The foundation of food education at Ege University was laid in 1975 with the establishment of the School of Food Technology. This unit, which gained faculty status in 1977, was affiliated with the Faculty of Engineering by a decision taken in 1983 and became the first Department of Food Engineering in Türkiye.
The language of instruction in the department is 100% English. Our students have the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in modern laboratories in areas such as food processing, preservation, transportation, development of new food products, and food safety.
The quality of our education has been accredited at both national and international levels through MÜDEK accreditation and remains valid until 2027.
In addition, in 2024, the department ranked 265th worldwide in its field and became the top-ranked department in Türkiye, demonstrating its international success.
In our modern research and education laboratories, dozens of projects are carried out each year; our students gain a global perspective through exchange programs such as Erasmus+ and Orhun. Our graduates take roles in a wide range of areas in the food sector, from production to R&D, from quality control to international trade, and contribute to shaping the future of the industry.
